The Iconic Hermès box originated in 1946 as a "happy accident" due to post WWII material shortages. When the traditional beige and mustard yellow packaging materials became unavailable, Hèrmes used the ONLY available, unpopular stock: bright orange. The bold color became a permanent, trademarked symbol of luxury. In 1949, the dark "Bolduc" ribbon was added to secure the orange box, adding a final torch of refinement.
